Sandvik gains transparency and savings in intralogistics from Rocla
Rocla and Sandvik Mining and Construction have signed a contract about a new kind of intralogistics service. Rocla provides Sandvik with intelligent intralogistics service with transparent warehousing and intralogistics costs. This contract concerns all Sandvik’s production units in Finland. Also company’s current truck fleet will be managed by Rocla.
– First we looked into customer’s current situation, how many and what kind of trucks they have, and the yearly costs generated by these trucks. After this analysis we discovered that we could offer them an intelligent solution which gives them ergonomic and modern truck fleet and agreed savings annually. The customer bought savings from us, clarifies Mr. Jari Valtanen, Executive Vice President, Finnish business unit at Rocla.
Centralized purchasing generates advantages quickly
Sandvik gets not only considerable annual savings but also optimal truck fleet. Based on Rocla’s truck fleet analysis eack work phase is now being done with the most suitable truck. Part of Sandvik’s existing truck fleet was replaced with new trucks from Rocla. All these new trucks are being branded according to Sandvik’s corporate image.

Rocla is responsible for Sandvik Mining and Construction’s whole truck fleet: trucks stay operational at all times.
– Earlier different units handled their own truck maintenance needs independently. Now Rocla’s professionals are responsible for all our trucks. Our trucks are always operational and there are no unused trucks burdening the units, explains Mrs. Saija Kuusisto-Lancaster, Purchasing Manager at Sandvik Mining and Construction.
Work safety and ergonomy important decision factors
Sandvik receives regularly an extensive report, in which the maintenance tasks of each truck are being marked, how many usage hours each truck has and how they are used. Also possible truck accidents and misuse are being reported.
– Work safety is an important issue for us. We expect that by reorganizing the truck fleet personnel’s job satisfaction will increase and the work ergonomy of truck drivers will improve, concludes Mrs. Kuusisto-Lancaster.
